Applying to JAMP

Here we lay out the steps to apply to the JAMP program.

Five Steps to Apply

Please follow our five-step process closely.

  1. Go to the JAMP website: www.texasjamp.org.  Read through the “Student” section to make sure you are eligible to apply and to learn more about the program.
  2. Please fill out the required UT Austin JAMP Applicant Pre-Application Survey (available after May 1st each year). You will upload your Notice of Intent and your Student Aid Reports into it. This will start your UT Austin JAMP applicant process.  Please note: After September 11th, we are no longer accepting new applicants for this JAMP cycle. Your Notice of Intent (NOI) allows us to collect your supporting documentation for your application and verify your eligibility for JAMP (see list below). All must be turned in together.
  3. We will notify you via email when we verify your primary eligibility and will let you know when to start your application. We will be starting to look at everything after the spring grades post in late May, early July is when you can expect the email from JAMP@austin.utexas.edu. Please check out our UT Austin JAMP-specific Application DEADLINES
  4. Go to the JAMP website (www.texasjamp.org): click on Applicant Login to create your user name and password and begin the application. We will then contact you to schedule your JFD interview.
  5. We ask students to submit their applications by 5 p.m. on October 1st unless otherwise authorized by our JAMP Program Coordinator in the UT Austin JAMP office.
  6. Go to the JAMP FAQs section of our website for information specific to applying at UT Austin. Please email your questions regarding JAMP at UT Austin to jamp@austin.utexas.edu.

Application Deadlines

The JAMP Application opens May 1st and closes Sept. 30th each year.

Please follow our UT Austin-specific dates below.

  • After September 11th we are no longer accepting new applicants for the current JAMP cycle.  If you are a Freshman, please apply next year, and if you are a Sophomore, please come speak to a health professions coach and we will help you on your journey to a career in medicine.
  • We ask that all UT Students currently in the process of applying to JAMP for the cycle submit their application no later than 5 p.m. on October 1st. This allows us time to upload your supporting documents. After your Notice of Intent and SAR's are received, and your application is started we will work with you to get your interview scheduled.

Please note:

  • We will start accepting Notice of Intents (NOI) and SARs for each application cycle for UT Austin JAMP applicants AFTER May 1st.
  • Early Admissions candidates only need to turn in their Freshman year Student Financial Aid Report (SAR).

More Information about Applying

Transfer Student Information

If you are transferring to UT Austin to complete your degree, please make sure you get one of your letters from a faculty member at your transfer institution using our Letter of Evaluation form.

If you have more questions you can schedule an online appointment with our JAMP Program Coordinator.

Please note you must turn in your application survey before you can meet with the JAMP Program Coordinator.

Notice of Intent to Apply

Before you start your JAMP application, please fill out a required UT Austin JAMP Applicant Pre-Applicant Survey.

(available after May 1st each year).

  • The survey will allow you to turn in your Notice of Intent to Apply and Student Aid Reports (SAR's) to us. We will no longer accept paper copies of these documents.
  • Please note: After 5 p.m. on September 11th, we will no longer accept new applicants for the current JAMP cycle.

Letters of Evaluation

As a part of the application, you will need to submit two letters of evaluation—one from a faculty member of your choice (we highly recommend that it comes from a science faculty member; however, please let us know if you have questions). The other letter is written by the UT JAMP Faculty Director at UT Austin, and this is called the JAMP Faculty Director (JFD) letter.

The evaluators may use the form provided by JAMP, or they may write an actual letter and attach it to the form. Be sure to fill in the top section of the form before you give it to your evaluator. You must select either: 1.) WAIVE your right to access the letter or 2.) RETAIN your right to access the letter. We strongly encourage you to WAIVE the right to access the letter as this underscores the honesty of the evaluation.

COVID-19 Update: Evaluators, please scan and submit the completed and signed form electronically from your official email address, to jamp@austin.utexas.edu.

Please note: if your evaluator is attaching an additional written letter of evaluation to the letter evaluation form, it must be signed and on letterhead.

JAMP JFD Letter Interview

The Health Professions Office will collect your supporting documents and monitor the status of your online application. Once we have verified your eligibility and you have started your application, you will be contacted to schedule an appointment with the JAMP Faculty Director.

This appointment/interview is an opportunity for the JAMP Faculty Director to casually talk with you about your candidacy and prepare the content of the letter of support for your application.

Note: You will not meet with the JAMP Faculty Director until the month of September, because the JFD letter is the last step in the process. It is a key part of your application! Your application is not considered complete without it. We will let you know when this is scheduled for.

Supporting Documents

JAMP will no longer consider the SAT/ACT as part of its selection criteria for applicants.

You are responsible for providing Student Aid Reports for your first and second undergraduate years.

The CNS Health Professions Office will collect the following on your behalf from your UT admissions application:

  •   HS Transcript
  •   High School Rank
  •   UT Transcript

Copies of transcripts from other institutions which have been forwarded to UT will be pulled on your behalf. [Please note: If you attended another institution and decided not to transfer the credit to UT, you are responsible for requesting an official transcript from that institution and having it mailed to us and to the registrar.]

Do not mail it - you must email to JAMP@austin.utexas.edu.

We will contact you if we do not have a document that is needed and request it directly from you via email.
